INTRODUCTION:
Welcome to the Housekeeping Department at Joondalup Health Campus. The Housekeeping Office is located on the ground floor adjacent to the back of the kitchen. Our team comprises of a support services manager, enviro manager, team-leader, admin staff, staff educator, leading hands and patient service assistants.
This orientation handbook is intended to provide you with useful knowledge to enable the smooth transition to the department and it is hoped that you will enjoy working within our team. It is essential that all new PSA/Orderley’s:
- Read this Housekeeping Orientation handbook
- Complete the Departmental Orientation Checklist (back of the orientation handbook) with a JHC staff member who has been delegated to carry out departmental orientation.
- You will be given a Non-clinical Infection Control Self Directed Learning Package which you will have to complete.
- You will be given a Blood & Blood Product Transportation Self Directed Learning Package which you will have to complete.
- Return the completed checklist and SDLP’s to the Staff Educators tray in the housekeeping office.
Designated staff trainers are responsible for ensuring that all new staff are provided with departmental orientation and training, prior to working in a team. The trainer will conduct departmental orientation using the departmental orientation checklist and conduct job training utilising a Training Checklist.
After a 2 week period the trainer will observe the new staff member to see if they are working to the required standard or identify if more training is required. If more training is required, more training would be given then another observation checklist would be used at an agreed time.

MANAGERS WELCOME:
As Housekeeping Manager I have the following expectation of the behaviours we display whilst working within the housekeeping department at Joondalup Health Campus:
WORKING SAFELY:
Complete all lawful directions/tasks as directed, efficiently, safely and to the best of your ability. Report or fix hazards as they occur. Doing nothing is not an option.
CONSTRUCTIVE ATTITUDE:
Be open to changes. Where we meet challenges with our processes, patients, visitor or staff. Think about how we can address them and what ideas you might have to help maintain a constructive attitude.
RESPONSIBILITY:
You are responsible for your own actions. If you make a mistake please own up to it and don’t blame others. If you see something unsafe, you are responsible for fixing/reporting it. Consider your colleagues who take over from you on the next shift. If you use something i.e. equipment, consumables, please either replace it or put it back where you got it from when you have finished. Taking responsibility is “Above the Line”. Understand what your role is and ensure you complete tasks correctly.
QUALITY:
Provide a high standard of cleaning and adhere to safety standards at all times. Provide quality customer service using the Ramsay Values of Respect, Dignity and treating others the way you would wish to be treated. Ensure you adhere correctly to JHC dress policy.
TEAMWORK:
Work as part of a team and assist others where possible to achieve and maintain the aims and goals of the department. When you do something, think about the impact on others. Clean as you go ensuring equipment and areas are left ready for their next use.
